About Melanie Collum

As a diversion from commercial art training I began producing pottery in the early 70's. I established a studio in Guelph, Ontario in the early 80's and have been producing a line of functional pottery ever since. Inspired by research into the art of ancient cultures, I am fascinated with the expression of spiritual concerns in both art and our home environment. Working with clay I can combine a painterly interest with 3-dimensional form and function. Porcelain provides a bright canvas for airbrushed designs. The square and rectangle plate engages the politics of daily living. By challenging our expectations about function, art and spirit becomes part of your daily life. Eat and pray, celebrate. The images are of women, landscapes and animals. Using ancient symbolic language, each piece has a story and a meaning. The pieces area daily reminder of your place in the unfolding dream.
